Auberge Jeunesse Nouméa
Centrally-located hostel with great views
€
Auberge Jeunesse Nouméa is a budget-friendly hostel on a hill above the cathedral with a fantastic view of the city. It’s one of the cheapest places to stay in Noumea.
In many ways, Noumea’s youth hostel feels a lot like many French or German youth hostels with an institutional design and a dated feel to it, but it is the cheapest place in town with helpful and friendly staff and some of the best views in Noumea. The hostel is clean, although the concrete buildings are dated and could do with a renovation.
Accommodation is in four and six-bed dormitories with metal bunk beds and large lockers (bring your own padlock) as well as single, double and twin private rooms that are ideal if you’re travelling on a budget but want a little privacy. The rooms are basic but clean with shared bathrooms on each floor.
Common areas include laundry facilities, a kitchen, a dining area with vending machines, a games room with table tennis and a TV lounge with a big plasma screen on the top floor. There is also a lovely garden area overlooking the city.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hostel.
The hostel is on a hill above the cathedral with access via stairs at the end of rue Jean Jaurès and it has a brilliant view of the city centre, the Quartier Latin and Baie de Moselle. From here you can walk to Place des Cocotiers in just six minutes, the main bus station in 12 minutes and most other points of interest in the city centre are between a five and a 20-minute walk.
