Le Stanley Hôtel

Breathtaking views over Baie Sainte-Marie

€€€

Le Stanley Hôtel is a waterfront hotel in suburban Ouémo offering breathtaking views over Baie Sainte-Marie. However, the location isn’t particularly convenient when compared with other hotels in Noumea.

Rooms at this hotel are large, mostly suites and studio apartments, and come with comfortable beds, a work desk, a flat screen television, a small kitchen (with a fridge and microwave oven), a balcony and an en suite bathroom. All rooms are air conditioned.

The hotel restaurant is open for breakfast, which is surprisingly reasonably priced. Even more surprising is that the restaurant is not open for dinner despite no other dining options in the immediate area. However, there is a small convenience store at the hotel where you can buy microwavable meals to cook inside your room.

Other guest amenities include a large swimming pool and a laundry room. Ample free parking is available.

Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available in all the rooms.

Le Stanley is a fairly old hotel that is showing its age and it needs a bit of work to bring it up to the standard of some of the newer hotels in Noumea. However, it has character, friendly staff and an unbeatable view.

Le Stanley has a very different location compared with other hotels in Noumea. It is on the waterfront in suburban Ouémo overlooking Baie Sainte-Marie but it isn’t on the beach and it isn’t very accessible to the city centre either. The location isn’t without its charms and the residential neighbourhood lends an air of authenticity to your experience and this can be a refreshing change from staying in a tourist zone full of other hotels. Parc Urbain de Sainte-Marie is nearby, which features a lovely mangrove walk and there is a very popular ice cream shop at the far end of the park; however, that’s about all there is in the immediate vicinity around the hotel.

From here, it is around a 15-minute bus ride into the city centre with bus route N1 running every 25–50 minutes (depending on the time of the day). There is a bus stop right outside the hotel so it’s easy to travel in and out of town; however, buses in Noumea don’t run late at night which means that you’ll need to either dine at the hotel or take a taxi back if you’re spending the evening in town.
